IVP is equipping the Church by publishing and distributing resources to communicate the gospel and encourage 'double listening' - to God's unchanging Word and today's ever-changing world - so that this is lived out in loving communities and distinctive lives that draw people to meet with Jesus Christ and respond in faith.

The IVP Story

IVP has enjoyed a fruitful publishing history extending over the last 75 years built on clear and distinctive mission and theological foundations. The outflow of this ministry can be seen in the vast array of excellent and significant resources written by an extensive range of world-renowned authors. IVP now supports the publishing or distribution of well over one million books each year to more than 150 countries, including the translation of titles into over 80 different languages.

For most of the last 75 years, IVP has operated as the publishing division of UCCF (Universities & Colleges Christian Fellowship), a student movement connecting Christian Unions in universities and colleges throughout Great Britain, and a member movement of IFES (the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students). Following a UCCF-wide strategic review, 2005 brought organisational independence to IVP enabling an increased focus on developing its publishing ministry, whilst continuing to partner with UCCF in support of its student ministry. IVP continues to be ‘collaborative by nature’ in order to maintain its historic independence, identity and autonomy and so guarantee the retention of its distinctive evangelical focus. This strategy has given rise to a growing range of UK, transatlantic and global partnerships covering publishing, sales, distribution, production and technology.

Whilst IVP receives no donation income, it does retain its historic charitable status, thereby guaranteeing that all future profits are ploughed back into supporting evangelical literature ministry. Ongoing governance is through a team of experienced non-executive Charity Trustees in partnership with a senior management team led by Brian Wilson as Chief Executive (contact him by email). IVP has been voted by UK booksellers as Christian Publisher of the Year five times in the last decade, and was recently successfully re-assessed as meeting the national Investors in People standard. In the last year, two IVP titles won national Book of the Year awards; John Stott's Radical Disciple (Overall Book of the Year) and Rachel Gardner's Cherished (Teenage Book of the Year).

IVP demonstrates a particular concern for the church in the majority world through specific publishing, advantageous pricing as well as actively supporting the translation of books into numerous 'mission languages'. Another recent initiative is the Growing Timothys scheme (www.growingtimothys.org), which seeks to donate and place much-needed resources into the hands of new generations of church and mission leaders across the poorest parts of the global church. 20% of all revenues through thinkivp.com are allocated to supporting Growing Timothys.

IVP is based at its Nottingham Book Centre and currently employs 40 staff.

IVP continues to play a vital role in resourcing and equipping the global church for its mission so that it can address the opportunities and challenges it faces more effectively and make a greater impact in today's world and in the lives of individuals.
